পরিচ্ছেদঃ ৫১: আল্লাহর দয়ার আশা রাখার গুরুত্ব
২০/৪৩৬। ইবনে মাসঊদ রাদিয়াল্লাহু ’আনহু বলেন, আমরা প্রায় চল্লিশ জন মানুষ রাসূলুললাহ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম এর সঙ্গে একটি তাঁবুতে ছিলাম। একসময় তিনি বললেন, ’’তোমরা কি পছন্দ কর যে, তোমরা জান্নাতবাসীদের এক চতুর্থাংশ হবে?’’ আমরা বললাম, ’জী হ্যাঁ।’ তিনি বললেন, ’’তোমরা কি জান্নাতবাসীদের এক তৃতীয়াংশ হতে পছন্দ কর?’’ আমরা বললাম, ’জী হ্যাঁ।’ তিনি বললেন, ’’তাঁর শপথ, যাঁর হাতে মুহাম্মাদের প্রাণ আছে, আমি দৃঢ়ভাবে প্রত্যাশী যে, জান্নাতবাসীদের অর্ধেক তোমরাই হবে। এটা এ জন্য যে, শুধুমাত্র মুসলিম প্রাণ ছাড়া অন্য কেউ জান্নাতে প্রবেশ করবে না। আর মুশরিকদের তুলনায় তোমরা এরূপ, যেরূপ কালো বলদের গায়ে (একটি) সাদা লোম অথবা লাল বলদের গায়ে (একটি) কালো লোম।’’ (বুখারী ও মুসলিম) [1]
بَابُ الرَّجَاءِ - (51)
وَعَنِ ابنِ مَسعُودٍ رضي الله عنه، قَالَ: كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم في قُبَّة نَحْواً مِنْ أربَعِينَ، فَقَالَ:أتَرْضَونَ أنْ تَكُونُوا رُبُعَ أهْلِ الجَنَّةِ ؟ قُلْنَا: نَعَمْ . قَالَ: أتَرْضَوْنَ أنْ تَكُونُوا ثُلُثَ أهلِ الجَنَّةِ ؟ قُلْنَا: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمّدٍ بيَدِهِ، إنِّي لأَرْجُو أنْ تَكُونُوا نِصْفَ أهْلِ الجَنَّةِ وَذَلِكَ أنَّ الجنَّةَ لاَ يَدْخُلُهَا إلاَّ نَفْسٌ مُسْلِمَةٌ، ومَا أنْتُم في أهْلِ الشِّركِ إلاَّ كَالشَّعْرَةِ البَيْضَاءِ فِي جِلدِ الثَّورِ الأَسْوَدِ، أَوْ كَالشَّعْرَةِ السَّودَاءِ في جِلدِ الثَّورِ الأحْمَر . مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيهِ
(51) Chapter: Hope in Allah's Mercy
'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
There were, about forty of us with Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) in a camp when he said, "Aren't you pleased that you will constitute one-fourth of the inhabitants of Jannah?" We said, "Yes". He again said, "Aren't you pleased that you will constitute one-third of the inhabitants of Jannah?". We said: "Yes." Upon this he (ﷺ) said, "By Him in Whose Hand Muhammad's soul is, I hope that you will constitute one-half of the inhabitants of Jannah; and the reason is that only Muslims will be admitted into Jannah; and you are no more compared to the polytheists than as a white hair on the skin of a black ox, or a black hair on the skin of a white ox."

Commentary: This Hadith reveals the following two points:
1. As compared with the believers and the faithful, there will be a large number of infidels in Hell.
2. As compared with the followers of other Prophets, there will be a larger number of Muslims in Jannah, to the extent that half of its occupants will be Muslims. This Hadith has glad tidings for the Muslim Ummah and bestows great respect and honour on them. (May Allah include us among them.)
