পরিচ্ছেদঃ ২০১: মাগরিবের ফরয নামাযের পূর্বে ও পরের সুন্নতের বিবরণ
৪/১১৩২। উক্ত রাবী (আনাস) রাদিয়াল্লাহু আনহু হতেই বর্ণিত, তিনি বলেন, ’আমরা মদিনাতে ছিলাম। যখন মুয়াজ্জিন মাগরিবের আযান দিত, তখন লোকেরা থামগুলির দিকে দ্রুত অগ্রসর হত এবং দু’ রাকআত নামায পড়ত। এমনকি কোন বিদেশী অচেনা মানুষ মসজিদে এলে, অধিকাংশ লোকের ঐ দু’ রাকআত পড়া দেখে মনে করত যে, (মাগরিবের ফরয) নামায পড়া হয়ে গেছে (এবং তারা পরের সুন্নত পড়ছে)।’ (মুসলিম) [1]
(201) بَابُ سُنَّةِ الْمَغْرِبِ بَعْدَهَا وَقَبْلَهَا
وَعَنْه، قَالَ: كُنَّا بِالمَدِينَةِ فَإِذَا أَذَّنَ المُؤَذِّنُ لِصَلاَةِ المَغْرِبِ، ابْتَدَرُوا السَّوَارِيَ، فَرَكَعُوا رَكْعَتَيْنِ، حَتَّى إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ الغَرِيبَ لَيَدْخُلُ المَسْجِدَ فَيَحْسَبُ أَنَّ الصَّلاَةَ قَدْ صُلِّيَتْ مِنْ كَثْرَةِ مَنْ يُصَلِّيهِمَا . رواه مسلم
(201) Chapter: Sunnah of the Maghrib Prayer
Anas bin Malik (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
When we were in Al-Madinah, the moment the Mu'adhdhin finished the Adhan of the Maghrib prayer, the people hastened to the pillars of the mosque and performed two Rak'ah prayer behind them. A stranger coming into the mosque would think that the obligatory prayer had already been performed because of the number of people performing them.

Commentary: This Hadith shows that it was usual with the Companions of the Prophet (PBUH) to perform two Rak`ah before Maghrib in the Prophet's mosque. But in spite of this fact these are Sunnah Ghair Mu'akkadah while the two performed after the Salat are Sunnah Mu'akkadah.
