পরিচ্ছেদঃ ৫৫: দুনিয়াদারি ত্যাগ করার মাহাত্ম্য, দুনিয়া কামানো কম করার প্রতি উৎসাহ প্রদান এবং দারিদ্রের ফযীলত
১১/৪৭১। উক্ত সাহাবী (আবূ হুরায়রা) রাদিয়াল্লাহু ’আনহু থেকেই বর্ণিত, রাসূলুল্লাহ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম বলেছেন, ’’(দুনিয়ার ধন-দৌলত ইত্যাদির দিক দিয়ে) তোমাদের মধ্যে যে নীচে তোমরা তার দিকে তাকাও এবং যে তোমাদের উপরে তার দিকে তাকায়ো না। যেহেতু সেটাই হবে উৎকৃষ্ট পন্থা যে, তোমাদের প্রতি যে আল্লাহর নিয়ামত রয়েছে তা তুচ্ছ মনে করবে না।’’ (বুখারী ও মুসলিম, শব্দগুলি মুসলিমের) [1]
বুখারীর বর্ণনায় আছে, ’’তোমাদের কেউ যখন এমন ব্যক্তির দিকে তাকায়, যাকে সম্পদে ও দৈহিক গঠনে তার থেকে বেশি শ্রেষ্ঠত্ব দেওয়া হয়েছে, তখন সে যেন এমন ব্যক্তির দিকে তাকায়, যে এ বিষয়ে তার চেয়ে নিম্নস্তরের।’’
(55) - باب فضل الزهد في الدنيا و الحث على التقلل منها و فضل الفقر
وَعَنهُ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم صلى الله عليه وسلم: انْظُرُوا إِلَى مَنْ هُوَ أسْفَلَ مِنْكُمْ وَلاَ تَنْظُرُوا إِلَى مَنْ هُوَ فَوْقَكُمْ ؛ فَهُوَ أجْدَرُ أنْ لاَ تَزْدَرُوا نِعْمَةَ الله عَلَيْكُمْ. متفقٌ عَلَيْهِ، وهذا لفظ مسلم وَفِي رِوَايَةِ البُخَارِي: إِذَا نَظَرَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى مَنْ فُضِّلَ عَلَيْهِ في المَالِ وَالخَلْقِ، فَلْيَنْظُرْ إِلَى مَنْ هُوَ أسْفَل مِنْهُ
(55) Chapter: Excellence of Leading an Ascetic Life, and Virtues of Simple Life
Abu Hurairah (May allah be pleased with him) reported:
Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Look at those who are inferior to you and do not look at those who are superior to you, for this will keep you from belittling Allah's Favour to you."
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
This is the wording in Sahih Muslim. The narration in Al-Bukhari is: Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "When one of you looks at someone who is superior to him in property and appearance, he should look at someone who is inferior to him".
Commentary: By looking at the worldly goods and riches of others, a person gradually becomes unthankful for the blessings which Allah has bestowed on him. The best remedy for this "disease" is that which has been prescribed by Messenger of Allah (PBUH) in this Hadith. The remedy is that one should look at the people who have lesser worldly goods and riches than one's own. If a person has a small house of his own which can protect him from the harshness of weather, then he has no need to see enviously towards sky-high buildings and palatial houses of others.
He should look at the homeless people who spend their nights on footpaths and live in huts which in rain leak like sieve and are swept away by a wave of flood water, etc. But from a religious angle, one should see towards those who are more fearful of Allah and observe their Salat meticulously so that one becomes more fond of obedience of Allah, has a greater fear of Him and devotes more time to prayer and devotion. This dispensation is also given in other Ahadith.
