পরিচ্ছেদঃ ৩৬: পরিবার-পরিজনের ভরণ-পোষণ
আল্লাহ তা’আলা বলেন,
﴿ وَعَلَى ٱلۡمَوۡلُودِ لَهُۥ رِزۡقُهُنَّ وَكِسۡوَتُهُنَّ بِٱلۡمَعۡرُوفِۚ ﴾ [البقرة: ٢٣٣]
অর্থাৎ “জনকের কর্তব্য যথাবিধি তাদের ভরণ-পোষণ করা।” (সূরা বাক্বারাহ ২৩৩ আয়াত)
তিনি আরো বলেন,
﴿ لِيُنفِقۡ ذُو سَعَةٖ مِّن سَعَتِهِۦۖ وَمَن قُدِرَ عَلَيۡهِ رِزۡقُهُۥ فَلۡيُنفِقۡ مِمَّآ ءَاتَىٰهُ ٱللَّهُۚ لَا يُكَلِّفُ ٱللَّهُ نَفۡسًا إِلَّا مَآ ءَاتَىٰهَاۚ ﴾ [الطلاق: ٧]
অর্থাৎ “সামর্থ্যবান নিজ সামর্থ্য অনুযায়ী ব্যয় করবে এবং যার জীবনোপকরণ সীমিত সে আল্লাহ যা দান করেছেন, তা হতে ব্যয় করবে। আল্লাহ যাকে যে সামর্থ্য দিয়েছেন, তার চেয়ে গুরুতর বোঝা তিনি তার উপর চাপান না।” (সূরা ত্বালাক্ব ৭ আয়াত)
তিনি অন্যত্র বলেন,
﴿وَمَآ أَنفَقۡتُم مِّن شَيۡءٖ فَهُوَ يُخۡلِفُهُۥۖ ﴾ [سبا: ٣٩]
অর্থাৎ “তোমরা যা কিছু ব্যয় করবে, তিনি তার বিনিময় দেবেন।” (সূরা সাবা ৩৯ আয়াত)
১/২৯৫। আবূ হুরাইরাহ রাদিয়াল্লাহু ’আনহু বলেন, রাসূলুল্লাহ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম বলেছেন, ’’এক দ্বীনার (স্বর্ণমুদ্রা) তুমি আল্লাহর পথে ব্যয় কর, এক দ্বীনার ক্রীতদাস মুক্ত করার কাজে ব্যয় কর, এক দ্বীনার কোন মিসকীনকে সদকাহ কর এবং এক দ্বীনার তুমি পরিবার পরিজনের জন্য ব্যয় কর। এ সবের মধ্যে ঐ দ্বীনারের বেশী নেকী রয়েছে যেটি তুমি পরিবার-পরিজনের উপর ব্যয় করবে।’’ (মুসলিম) [1]

وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيرَةَ رضي الله عنه، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم صلى الله عليه وسلم: «دِينَارٌ أنْفَقْتَهُ في سَبيلِ اللهِ، وَدِينار أنْفَقْتَهُ في رَقَبَةٍ، وَدِينارٌ تَصَدَّقْتَ بِهِ عَلَى مِسْكِينٍ، وَدِينَارٌ أنْفَقْتَهُ عَلَى أهْلِكَ، أعْظَمُهَا أجْراً الَّذِي أنْفَقْتَهُ عَلَى أهْلِكَ». رواه مسلم

Sustentation of the Members of the Family
Allah, the Exalted, says:
"The father of the child shall bear the cost of the mother's food and clothing on a reasonable basis". (2:233)
"Let the rich man spend according to his means, and the man whose resources are restricted, let him spend according to what Allah has given him. Allah puts no burden on any person beyond what He has given him". (65:7)
"And whatsoever you spend of anything (in Allah's Cause), He will replace it". (34:39)
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "A dinar you spend in Allah's way, or to free a slave, or as a charity you give to a needy person, or to support your family, the one yielding the greatest reward is that which you spend on your family".
[Muslim].
Commentary: A Muslim is ordained to spend first of all on the need of his wife and children and their food and clothes. There is greater reward for him in this because these expenses are obligatory on him while spending on other items is in the nature of Nawafil. Obviously, one cannot forego the former for the latter.
